Why get involved with volunteering through the SERVICE Squad?

Second, the foundation of our organization is built on a desire to serve our Buckeye community by encouraging and facilitating volunteerism. The SERVICE Squad is a unique Ohio State service-based organization that unites students with volunteer opportunities at several Columbus-area organizations. As stated in our organization's constition, we at the SERVICE Squad:
- encourage students to be active volunteers in local schools and nonprofit organizations,
- train these students in community leadership and
- provide opportunities for students to reflect on the work they have been doing in the community and how their previous, personal experiences affect what they bring to the organization.
What does all this mean? Third, it means that you should volunteer with the SERVICE Squad because, with us, you’re not all at all ‘just a number’; instead, you’re connected to the resources, networking opportunities, and development opportunities associated with a full-fledged community service organization. As a volunteer, you can attend quarterly “all-SERVICE Squad” meetings that focus on issues that spark your interest, enrich your experience, and meet your needs. Also, SERVICE Squad's volunteers are invited to attend the annual SERVICE Squad volunteer appreciation event held to honor YOU with tons of food and fun. Last year’s all-SERVICE Squad meetings focused on highlighting volunteer experience in resumes with an advisor as a guest host and on reflection as a tool to enrich volunteer experience with Cristen Porter from the Ohio Union as our guest.
